Field Blur effect in Photoshop CS6. In this Photoshop tutorial, you are going to learn to the use of an incredible tool. This is the blur tool, or one part of part of the blur tool, the field blur in particular. When you apply the blur effect to your image, you are going to be able to adjust its amount differently for different parts of the image, giving it an overall amazing focus.

1. Open whatever image you would like to work on in Adobe Photoshop. This is the image we will be using in this tutorial:

Image Link:

Go to: Filter > Blur > Field Blur

Your entire image will go blurry by default settings.

Also notice the appearance of a circular icon. This icon is called a pin. You can simply adjust the amount of blurring by clicking the outer ring of this pin and dragging the cursor clockwise or anticlockwise, thereby increasing or decreasing the amount of blurring.

But of course you can make the same changes by simply using the blur slider as shown below:

So far the blur effect has been spread out on your entire image uniformly. But what you need to do now is only apply the blur effect to certain regions of the image. And to do this you are going to need more pins! So move your cursor around to another spot on the image and you will see an icon like that shown below:

Now click and another pin will appear. Notice how you can operate only one pin at a time.

You can also move pins around by clicking their centers and dragging them down to different positions. You can add as many pins as you like and each pin can have a different blur setting.

For a sharp focus on a particular aspect of your image, click the pin and change its blur setting to zero. Refer to the image below:

When you’re sure you want to keep these changes, click OK.

That’s it, babe.

Final Result:

Voila.

This tutorial will show you how to create 3D text, give it a futuristic blue glow, and finish it off with a modern bokeh and grid background. There are also a few really cool Photoshop tricks scattered in this tutorial.
It isn’t always necessary to use a 3D program to create 3D text — they’re expensive and overkill if you just occasionally use 3D elements. Adobe Illustrator is more than adequate in allowing us to create some 3D objects with some basic shading for our text. In this tutorial, we are going to learn how to make some 3D text using Adobe Illustrator, and also discuss techniques of shading the text to give it a clean, consistent, and stylized look.

We will be using Adobe Photoshop CS5 — unfortunately, the Repousse tool is not available in older versions of Photoshop. So if you have CS3 or 4, let this inspire you to upgrade.

Nothing says “Eye Candy” like a great 3D design. Using 3D elements can make a poster, book cover or magazine ad pop off of the page. In the past we’ve had to resort to 3rd party software to export 3D elements so that we could incorporate them into our 2D design world within Photoshop. Well that’s all changed. If your using Photoshop CS5 then you’re already tinkering in the realm of 3D design. In the tutorial below I will show you how to dabble a bit in Photoshop’s built in 3D tools. As always, my design work leans a bit toward the experimental side of things, so if you know of a better way to accomplish the task I’ve set forth below… Please add your thoughts using the comment fields at the bottom of the page.
