Create flowing water Effect in Photoshop

Note: This tutorial has been carried out in Adobe Photoshop CS5. Some functions used in this tutorial may not be available in older versions of Adobe Photoshop.

Final Result:


1)  For this tutorial, I am making use of the image below:

2)  Open a new layer.

3)  Using the Lasso Tool, make the following selection:

4)  Fill (SHIFT+F5) this selection with 50% Gray.

5)  In the Layers Panel, reduce the Fill of Layer 1 to 0%.

6)  From the Layers Panel, open Layer Style for Layer 1 and make the following changes:

7)  Open a new layer.

8)  Make sure the Foreground color to White.

9)  Select the Brush Tool and make the following changes in the Tool Options Bar above:

The Hardness of the brush has been set to 0%.

10)  With the Brush Tool still selected, left-click only once below the tap.

11)  With Layer 2 still selected, go to Edit > Transform > Warp.

12)  Now, move around the vertices and adjust them so that the shape seems to be water flowing out of the tap.

13)  In the Layers Panel, make the following changes to Layer 2:

14)  Open a new layer.

15)  Using the Rectangular Marquee Tool, create the selection shown in the image below:

16)  Select the Gradient Tool and make the following changes in the Tool Options Bar above:

17)  Using the Gradient Tool, draw a vertical line inside the selection you created in Step 15.

18)  Deselect (CTRL+D) the selection.

19)  From the Layers Panel, open Layer Style for Layer 3 and make the following changes:

That’s it, babe. Final Result:

Voila.
