Grunge photo effect in Photoshop. In this tutorial, you will learn how to create the grunge photo effect in Adobe Photoshop. Basically, you will be using multiple textures to create the grunge photo effect. Our primary picture is that of an old house onto which we will be applying the textures. This tutorial will make use of layer styles, various channels, and multiple selection tools to create the desired effect in Adobe Photoshop.
1. Load this texture image onto Adobe Photoshop to start with the grunge photo effect.

2. Next, load this texture image onto Adobe Photoshop and then click and drag it onto your original document.
3. Change the Blend Mode of the second texture layer from Normal to Overlay and then change the Opacity to 55%. This is what you should get:

4. Now make a duplicate of the second texture layer.
5. Desaturate the image (Shift + CTRL + U).

6. Change the Blend Mode of the duplicate layer from Normal to Overlay. Change the Opacity to 55%.

7. Open whatever sketch image you would like to work on in Photoshop. Click and drag this image onto your document. This is the image we will be working on in this tutorial:

8. Open the Channels Panel.
9. Press CTRL and click the Red channel; a selection will appear.
10. Press SHIFT + CTRL + I to make an inverse selection.
11. Click on Save Selection as Channel. Photoshop adds a new channel below the other channels and name it Alpha 1.

12. Deselect the selection.
13. From the Layer’s Panel, turn off the layer visibility of the image you just loaded onto Adobe Photoshop.
14. Now create a new layer and then go to: Select > Load Selection and select Alpha 1.Then press OK.

15. Right-click on the selection and then choose Stroke.

Make the fallowing changes.

16. Change the Blend Mode of this new layer from Normal to Subtract.

17. Next, we will be loading another image onto Adobe Photoshop. Click and drag this image onto your document:

18. Open the Channels Panel.
19. Press CTRL and click the Red channel; a selection will appear.
20. Press SHIFT + CTRL + I to make an inverse selection.
21. Click on Save Selection as Channel. We will be calling this channel Alpha 2.

22. Deselect the selection.
23. Turn off the layer visibility of this new image you just loaded onto Adobe Photoshop.
24. Create another new layer and then go to: Select > Load Selection, then choose Alpha 2 and press OK.

25. Right-click on the selection and choose Stroke.
26. Set the width to 1px and choose Black as your stroke color, then press OK.
27. Press CTRL+T and then scale down the image. Place this image wherever you like.

28. Now using Photoshop’s Text Tool, create your Grunge text with the color White. This is the font we are using in this tutorial:

29. Change the Blend Mode of the text layer from Normal to Overlay.
